STEM SUMMIT- April 12, 2019

STEMTeen's STEM Summit was a 2 hour long workshop where we learned about DNA through the DNA strawberry challenge, as well as the engineering process through building catapults! At this workshop, the kids got the opportunity to also learn about team work and communication as they worked in groups to build their catapults. The workshop was successful in igniting the kids' curiosity by teaching them about DNA and engineering! 

STEMxINNOVATION- July 21, 2019

STEMTeen's STEMxINNOVATION workshop was a 2 hour and 30 minutes long workshop where kids in grades 3rd-6th grades learned about engineering by working in teams of 3 to build the tallest tower made of spaghetti and marshmallow. The kids communicated at the beginning of the challenge to discuss different designs. We also built miniature models of earthquake resistant buildings after learning about earthquakes. Finally, we ended with the egg drop challenge where the kids built structures in which an egg was placed, and at the end the building the structure, the structures were dropped from a height of 8 feet to see if the eggs survived the drop. All the teams successfully built structures in which the egg did not crack after the drop! 

SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE- August 10th, 2019

STEMTeen's Sustainable Science workshop was a 3 hour long workshop where middle school and high school students learned about climate change and how to be environmentally sustainable. We had a guest speaker from WA Climate Strike, Kimaya Mahajan, speak to us about how climate change has impacted different groups of people and how everyone can push to stop climate change. We also did a few fun activties like turning old t-shirts into grocery bags and turning used plastic bottles into plant pots. Not only did everyone at the workshop have fun, but they also learned about global warming and how to prevent it from getting any worse.

GIRL BOSS WORKSHOP- September 29th, 2019

STEMTeen's Girl Boss workshop was a workshop for middle school girls that aimed to empower girls interested in the STEM and Business fields. The girls participated in a bunch of fun activities including a business pitch. They had to identify a problem that the world faced and design a solution to it. Furthermore, we asked them to present what they had come up with. Throughout this workshop, the girls built on their leadership and collaboration skills while also learning how to apply their critical thinking skills to a real world issue. 

STEMTeenXTeachToBuild WORKSHOP- October 1st-3rd, 2019

STEMTeen partnered up with Teach To Build to host a workshop at a local orphanage in Hyderabad, India. We led a bunch of fun STEM activities while also raising awareness about bullying. This workshop took place over three days and we had a huge turn out!

 COLLEGE AND CAREER WORKSHOPS- July, 2020

STEMTeen partnered up with STEM4Service and KizCode to host a series of virtual workshop related to college and careers. Our first workshop was about motivations/goal-setting and our second workshop was about mastering the college app. Our third workshop was related to scholarships and financial aid and we finished the series with a workshop about exploring careers in STEM. We had some wonderful guest speakers who shared their experiences and answered questions that our attendees had. We had more than 110 participants and over 23 guest speakers. 

STEMTeen Seattle's Scratch Workshop

- July 24-25, 2020

In the month of July, STEMTeen Seattle hosted a 2-day virtual workshop where attendees learned about Scratch. On the first day, participants learned about the fundamentals of Scratch and the functionalities of it. On the second day, participants learned how to use Scratch to build fully functional games. Overall, our chapter's workshop had a great turn out and all the students had a lot of fun!

The Earthlings Project

- August 17-21, 2020

In the month of August, STEMTeen launched a eco-friendly initiative called Earthlings. Through this initiative, STEMTeen hosted a week-long environmental challenge for students all over the world. Everyday participants had a checklist of different tasks related to sustainability based on the theme of that day. Some of the themes were fast fashion and transportation and some of the tasks were signing petitions, making vegan meals and recycling. The winner of the competition received a $50 gift certificate (which was generously sponsored by GZ Radio ) to a sustainable and POC owned business and the second place winner received a $25 gift certificate. Overall, we had over 80 participants from all over the world!

Teen Entrepreneurship Workshop

- August 22, 2020

STEMTeen partnered up with Mission STEM to host a teen entrepreneurship workshop in the month of August. Our guest speakers were Stephanie Hu, founder of Dear Asian Youth, and Ellen Yang, Executive Director of Desircle and creator of HelloBrandBox, talk about their experiences with starting and running an organization. They also talked about their inspirations, marketing strategies and growing an audience.  We had over 40+ sign ups and our attendees were from all across the world!
